The Cooperative is the state-licensed maternal and child health consortium that coordinates and supports maternal-fetal and newborn care throughout the seven-county region of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties.
Through the collaborative efforts of hospitals, public health agencies, universities, healthcare professionals, and consumers, the Cooperative's activities that are directed toward improving the health of pregnant and birthing individuals, infants, and families and decreasing perinatal mortality and morbidity include:
- Assisting providers in the development of quality regional clinical programs that ensure access to the appropriate level of care and the cost-effective utilization of resources.??
- Developing and disseminating educational programs integrating current theory and practice.
- Collecting and interpreting data concerning critical health and social factors that drive maternal-fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality as a basis for identifying the need for clinical or educational program development.
- Supporting the communities of South Jersey through evidence-informed programs designed to prevent and reduce the harm of clinical and social factors that negatively impact health and wellbeing.
These activities of the Cooperative are focused on the prevention of pre-term births and maternal-fetal and neonatal mortality, woven into the fabric of a safety net to support the families and communities of South Jersey.
