The Hudson Pride Center presents the 1st LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health Summit in Hudson County, in order to bring together parents/ caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth, educators, and social service providers in one setting where they will receive education and empowerment opportunities that would equip participants with the necessary tools and strategies for creating safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.

LGBTQ+ youth face unique societal challenges and stressors related to their minority sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Research shows that LGBTQ+ youth are at higher risk for depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation, resulting in elevated rates of homelessness, substance misuse, and other high-risk behaviors. By raising awareness through an LGBTQ+ focused Summit targeting direct youth-serving providers, participants will gain increased understanding of LGBTQ+ youth needs/concerns and learn useful skills to more proactively and competently address them so as to foster a more just and equitable society where LGBTQ+ youth can thrive.

LGBTQ+ Sensitivity & Stigmas
Dr. David Rosen DBH, LCSW (he/him) Director of Learning and Inclusion at the Hudson Pride Center
HPC’s Clinical Director, Dr. David Rosen, who has 30 years of experience working with LGBTQ+ youth in the fields of mental health, substance abuse, and HIV prevention, will deliver the first session of the day, LGBTQ+ Sensitivity & Stigmas. This session will cover LGBTQ+ terminology, legal rights, mental health statistics, and affirming care practices that can be used by anyone interacting with LGBTQ+ youth.

LGBTQ+ Youth Panel Discussions
Facilitator: Stephanie Mills (she, her), Hudson Pride Center's Director of Youth Services.
Learn directly from LGBTQ+ Youth on what their unique challenges, needs, and barriers to care are. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers directly from LGBTQ+ youth.

Improving School Climate & Environment
Lamar Tucker, MSW, M.Ed  (he/him), Head Social Worker for Empowerment Academy.
Empowerment Academy Charter School's own Head School Social Worker, Lamar Tucker, will provide his expertise and experience in creating a safer and more affirming school environment.

Mental Health Provider Panel Discussions
Facilitator: Elvis Guiracocha, LSW (he/ him), Community Health Programs Manager at the Hudson Pride Center
Hudson Pride Center's Mental Health Program has bridged a gap in mental health care access for LGBTQ+ youth and their families. A panel of mental health professionals from the program will discuss their experiences and offer strategies for providing affirming care to LGBTQ+ youth.

Introduction to NJ4S & Prevention Links
Pam Presinal (she/her) NJ4S Assistant Hub Director
NJ4S Hudson County Assistant Hub Director, Pam Presinal, will introduce NJ4S' model of services and resources intended to support youth mental wellness and promote prevention initiatives (prevention of bullying, teen suicide, substance use, and more).

Networking Activities!
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage and build connections with other community leaders.

Street parking is available for guests attending our event! The venue is also conveniently located near parking garages (for a fee). Be sure to arrive early to secure your spot, as parking spaces may fill up quickly. If you are taking public transportation, the venue is located within five minutes (walking distance) from the Journal Square PATH & Bus terminal.
